Where your business is with AI, and where it's actually going.
Most businesses don't fail at AI because the tools are bad. They fail because they bolt a tool onto a broken process, see nothing change, and conclude “AI didn't work for us.” The truth is quieter: there's a path from where you are now to AI genuinely running your operation, and most people skip the middle of it.
This page lays out that path. It's the same one we walk with every client, and the same one we're walking ourselves.
The path
Two ends and a bridge between them.
The entrance
Immediate value.
You start with the single thing costing you the most: hours lost to admin, senior people stuck in data entry, a hire you can't justify. We remove it, and the math shows up in your P&L inside the first engagement.
The destination
AI runs the operation.
Far enough down the path, something changes underneath. AI stops being a tool your team reaches for and becomes the way the business runs: reports write themselves, intake never sleeps, the capacity is just there. We name it honestly up front so the work stays pointed at it.
The bridge
The work between.
Every fix is a span. One leak sealed, then another, each scoped to compound rather than just patch. Quarter by quarter the spans connect, until you've crossed from “we use AI sometimes” to “AI is how we operate.” That crossing is the bridge. It's why we're called what we are.
The ladder
The five levels of the climb.
We assess every operation, yours and ours, against a five-level ladder adapted from Chris Cowden's framework (originally AI Durable™). It's a diagnostic, not a report card. The point isn't the number; it's knowing the next rung.
Level 1
AI-Aware
The team knows AI exists and may have tried a tool or two; nothing durable yet. Nothing is in production, and nothing is tied to a business outcome.
Level 2
AI-Active
Pilot workflows running on AI, hands-on and supervised. Early wins exist but aren’t yet repeated across the operation; some compounding starts.
Level 3
AI-Operational
Where GBT currently sitsStandardized, repeatable, semi-automated workflows with fewer surprises. AI is no longer experimental; it’s part of the operation.
Level 4
AI-Integrated
Most jobs run autonomously and humans supervise. AI is the default consideration for new work; it’s how the business operates day to day.
Level 5
AI-First (Self-Improving)
The destination. The system runs the operations and improves as it goes; humans direct strategy and quality. Not a layer on top: the operation itself.
Where we are
We're on the same ladder we put you on.
We're at Level 3 of 5: standardized workflows running with light supervision, climbing in public. We don't claim a level we haven't lived in, and we'd rather tell you we're mid-climb than pretend we've arrived. Every quarter we publish what shipped, what broke, and where we are next.
If you want to know whether we can build the thing you need, the most honest evidence is watching us build our own.
The engagements
Every engagement moves you up the ladder.
You don't buy “AI.” You buy a step. A diagnostic names which rung you're on and what the next one is worth in dollars. A Problem Solved or a Build clears the work that gets you there. A Partnership walks rung after rung with you, quarter by quarter.
Each one runs the same four steps (prove value, educate your team, identify the path, ensure adoption) so the climb sticks after we leave.
